If you were offered a lantern
in the darkness
would you accept the fingers
of its warmth
upon your heart and soul

or would you return
to the darkness
for it is sacred and known ?

Name you the sun,
I am the moon;
name you the earth,
I am the sea;
name you the candle,
I am the wick

to light your words
unto countless
generations.

Pledge to me
this one moment in time.

The rest of eternity
can belong
to the entire universe.

If for but this instant
I could swim
within the sea of your eyes
I would forsake water
for the rest
of my life.

When I attempt to sleep
your name echoes
on the wings of wakefulness
that follows me
into tomorrow.
