I ask no more from you
than to share our words
that cascade from the waterfall
of our thoughts and emotions
- no more than this

I had used more words
than I intended so I set sail
upon the sea of your heart
where I hoped to find
some distant isle
where I could walk along
the shore and perhaps find
a shell to place to my ear
to hear the ocean
sing forth your name.

All that I ask is to listen
to your voice as it talks quiet
into the still of the evening,
and if I seem unsure
it is because I walk
through a wilderness
where neither the compass of my heart
nor the map of my soul
can be trusted for adequate guidance.
